We in Investec Ireland are delighted to continue our sponsorship of St Mary’s Rugby Club for the 2008/2009 season. We are now in our 9th year of our association with St Mary’s and we are confidently looking forward to a successful year.
Our initial sponsorship of the Club came through our association with Fr Flavin and St Mary’s College. It continues to give us great satisfaction that some of the players from the college continue to shine both for St Mary’s RFC and the Provincial and Irish teams. We were delighted to be the sponsor of the college in 2002 when they won the Leinster Schools Cup and so it would be a fantastic double were the club to capture the AIL Championship during our tenure as sponsors.
The new Floodlights and GYM are fantastic additions to Templeville. The voluntary work and fund raising activities of members of the Club never ceases to amaze me and will ensure that St Mary’s will continue to be the yardstick in terms of what facilities can be provided by commitment and teamwork.
Lunches in St Mary’s before home AIL games are the stuff of folklore. I have yet to be there at the end but this year that’s my challenge! The president Eoin Quinn has some hard acts to follow but I am sure he will more than rise to the challenge. The captain of the team Philip Brophy, is facing an uphill challenge to emulate the AIL winning team of 2000 but with pre-season form excellent and some new additions to the squad we are all quietly confident.
