J4s V Terenure J4 The J4's took on Terenure in Lakelands on Saturday afternoon, as the J4 league finally resumed following the Christmas break and subsequent bad weather. This was a typical derby with both teams physically committed but the lack of training and game time in recent weeks showed with rustiness evident on both sides. It was over 30 minutes before the first score was registered with Terenure kicking a penalty. From a scrum inside the Mary's half, Terenure went through some phases and their big centre crashed over by the posts. They slotted the conversion to go 10-0 up. Mary's were playing against the wind but were determined to get points on the board in the first half. Out-half Teddy Moran fielded a deep kick from Terenure and passed to winger Nick Cunningham who looped around from the right wing. Nick made some ground and released centre Darragh O'Neill who broke deep into Terenure territory before offloading to left winger Chi-Yuen who came inside on the switch. he was tackled but got the offload away to fellow winger Nick who had run a great supporting line to score his first try of the season. Teddy added the extra points to make it 10-7 at half time. Terenure had been conceding penalties at the breakdown and this continued in the second half, giving us 2 shots at goal, one of which Teddy got, missing the more difficult one. 10-10. The lack of training in recent weeks was beginning to show with Mary's trademark fitness levels below their usual high standard. We conceded a penalty inside our half and Terenure took the lead, 13-10. Teddy quickly hit back with another penalty though, to level at 13-13. The referee finally lost patience with the Terenure No. 7 after a late tackle on Teddy in our 22 and, having been warned previously for ill-discipline at the breakdown, the referee showed him the yellow card. Unfortunately, the wind got hold of Teddy's subsequent kick and sent it over the dead ball line, stopping us from pressing home our numerical advantage early on. Terenure managed to ride out the ten minutes and with 2 minutes to go, they were awarded a dubious penalty with Darragh O'Neill being penalised for hands in the ruck when he was on his feet with the tackler not releasing. The Terenure kicker cursed as he made an awful contact with the ball but somehow, after starting well wide, it corkscrewed its way inside the posts to give them a 16-13 lead. Terenure regained possession but kicked the ball to touch in midfield after estimating themselves that time was up rather than asking the referee. he said there was one more play and after some static cross-field passing from Mary's looking for a gap, openside Phil Conway took the ball forward, broke a tackle and took play into the Terenure half. He was tackled and Terenure conceded another penalty at the breakdown and Teddy slotted the last kick of the game to salvage a draw for the men in blue. Final score - 16-16. 15. Paul Whyte 14. Nick Cunningham 13. Darragh O'Neill 12. Paul Moran 11. Chi-Yuen Hui 10. Brian Moran 9. Ross Wynne (c) 8. Padraig Nestor 7. Phil Conway 6. Tim Henderson 5. Kenny McArdle 4. Anthony O'Hanlon 3. Alan Godfrey 2. Eamon Moran 1. Ross Kelly
J3 match report. The J3 swung back into action with a bonus point win against suttonians last Sunday. A month after our last match we were ring rusty and a bit sluggish, but that said a good performance by the whole team, tries by Graham Crawford (2), Simon Nagle, David Williams and Alex Mullin secured the necessary 5 points which puts us right back in contention for the league, a mention must go to Donal Joyce who turned out for the first 40 with a good display to cover in the back row, thanks to Mossy Davin for the two J5 players, James Nolan and Anthony O'Hanlon who did very well in the pack and are a credit to the J5's. Our next outing is Monkstown at home which is another must win game. Ruaidhri Moran
St Marys v Coolmine ( pennant side) 17/01/10. From the kick off Coolmine took control of the game and put our pack under a lot of pressure and after 5 mins we conceded a early penalty which they converted to take a 3/0 lead. And from our kick off they put the ball back down into our twenty two where we knocked the ball on and conceded a scrum. From the scrum Coolmine went over for a well taken try but missed the conversion to lead 8/0. We started to get on top of Coolmine and we where winning good lineout ball. After 20 minutes we started to get on top of the game winning great line out ball and from one of the lineouts Rikki Micken scored an execellent try which Ross O Brien converted to make the score 8/7 to Coolmine. After some great forward play Ronan Lennon went over for a great try which Ross converted to make it 14/8 to Marys. Just before half time we were defending our line when we turned the ballover and from just outside our 22 Cormac Tracy made agreat break and scored a wonderful try which was converted by Ross O Brien . Half time score 21/8 to Marys. From the start of the second half we took complete control of the game but we were reduced to 14 players after Steve Murray was sin binned. But again after some great team play we scored another great try by Matt Dempsey which made the score 26/8. With 7 mins left Francois Guirand went over for a try and Mat Dempsey converted. With a minute to go Rikki Mc Micken went over for his second try of the game. Final score 38 /8 to Marys. Great team effort by all concerned on the day. Thanks to Robert Sweeney, Dermot Ferris for their assistance on the day (and Max Ebbs - Pennant Ballboy!). Thanks also to David Donohoe for his help in getting the pitch fit for play. Jack Ebbs

 | IRFU Bud Light Tag Comes to St Marys College RFC in 2010 The 2010 Tag Rugby season is shaping up to be the biggest and best to date with St Marys College RFC/Templeogue College starting its first year as a Bud Light Tag venue. This is the only official IRFU TAG Rugby programme in Ireland and registration of teams will open on Thursday January 7th 2010, with the leagues running from May to July. The growth of Bud Light Tag has been phenomenal and this year’s programme expects to see over 190 teams come to Templeville each week of the season to enjoy a packed summer of fun. "Last year’s leagues exceeded expectations to the point that we have again expanded the number of venues, allowing for more teams and players to take part, said IRFU Bud Light Tag Manager Olly Hodges.
"The social aspect of TAG and its ability to attract players who may never have even set foot in a rugby club before has been not only a boost to the venue club in term of revenues, but also to the possibility of attracting new members." The Bud Light Tag leagues caters for all levels of skill and fitness for mixed social, men's and women's teams. The growth of Tag Rugby has been successful in spreading the popularity of the game of rugby and its non-contact nature and social aspect have made it accessible to both men and women in the specially graded levels. And thats not all, in the true tradition of rugby being a 'game of two halves', the games are only the first half of a Bud Light Tag evening before heading to the clubhouse. Teams looking to take part can register on www.irfutag.ie or contact IRFU Leisure Rugby on tag@irishrugby.ie . Registrations open at 10am on January 7th 2010, with Team Registration Fees remaining at 2009 Bud Light Tag price of only €550, providing great value to all participating players. Bud Light Tag is for 18 years and over only Responsibility Matters. Visit drinkaware.ie |
