Our President

I warmly welcome to you to St. Mary's College RFC at Templeville Road. To all visiting teams, their officials and supporters, guests of our members and our neighbours, please know that I want your visit to the Club to be an enjoyable one. In particular, I welcome and thank the match officials who join us every weekend to ensure both fairness on the pitch and the safety of the players.

The Club maintained its Division 1A status last season going down to the last game at Temple Hill. The two bonus points earned there were a welcome relief to all.

I wish our new Senior Head Coach Peter Burke, and forwards coach Steven Bradshaw every success with a great squad under the leadership of captain Ciaran Ruddock. To the Manager, Paudge McGill and his team, I thank you for your incredible commitment and enthusiasm in the past and wish you well for this coming season.

Whilst I wish the senior squad every success, I also thank them for their input during the summer months. I look forward to them producing the type of running rugby for which the Club had been synonymous for decades.

To all the other teams representing the Club, and the womens' team, please be assured of the support of every member of the Club. Junior rugby is the life-blood of any successful Club.

I thank the members of the Club who continue to show their support for both home and away fixtures. For those of you who haven't been to an away match in the AIL, please give it a go this season. The lads on the pitch really appreciate the vocal support and it is a wonderful way to get to know, so much better, fellow Club members, particularly on the supporters' bus home after the game!

I thank the Directors of Rugby, Alan Shirley (Senior), John Muldoon (Under 20's), with Michael O'Flaherty assisting, Maurice Davin (Junior), Aidan Manahan (Youths), Paddy Lennon and Shane Keown (Mini's) for your time and commitment for the coming season.

I thank all the members of the Executive Committee for putting their hands up to take on the responsibility of running the Club. It is not easy. The cost of running a Division 1A Club in Ireland is expensive. Thus, hard work and careful management of limited resources is essential. In particular, I thank the Club Chairman, Joe Doddy, for his leadership.

I thank all of our sponsors without whom the Club would not survive. In particular, I thank our main sponsor SoftCo in the persons of Jim Coffey and Susan Spence. I would also like to thank our many sponsors.

I thank all those who advertise in our Yearbook, take teams in our Golf Classic, have pitch-side hoardings, and attend pre-match lunches.

I thank our Club Administrator, Marie Hammond for her incredible commitment and good cheer, our Bar Manager, Tony McGuinness, our groundsman Pat Nash and Clubhouse cleanliness person, Rita O'Toole.

I thank all our other volunteers who do so much because they love the Club. If you haven't been involved as a volunteer up until now, please put up your hand!

I look forward to the Season 2017/18 at Templeville Road in the company of friends old and new. I will do all that I can in maintaining the reputation of St. Mary's College RFC as being one of the most hospitable Clubs in the Country.

David A. Fanagan,
President, St.Mary's College R.F.C., 2017-2018.
