Volunteers wanted

St Mary’s College RFC is a club run by its members for its members. The vast majority of work done in the club is carried out by volunteers without whom the success of our club would not be possible. The club requires volunteer members on a continual basis with involvement ranging from a few hours per year to a few hours per week.

Roles currently undertaken by volunteers include, among many others:

• The club’s executive committee

• Rugby team coaches (men’s rugby, women’s rugby, youth rugby, and mini rugby)

• Rugby team managers (men’s rugby, women’s rugby, youth rugby, and mini rugby)

• Various committees (Rugby, finance, commercial and marketing etc.)

• Fundraising and social event organisation (e.g. The Core junior disco is run by over 20 volunteers 9 times per season, Golf outing and other events throughout the year).

• Club Child Protection Officer

• Club PRO

• Club Archivist

• AIL match day gate organisation

The club greatly appreciates the time and effort our volunteers contribute. As part of our Volunteer Acknowledgement Scheme we are taking a table at a number of AIL pre-match lunches to say thank you to volunteers from all sections of the club.

Specific roles for which the club is currently actively seeking volunteers can be found on our website. However, there are many other roles with which you can help. Perhaps you have retired from playing over the past few years and would like a way to remain involved in our club. Please get in touch if you have a few hours to spare.

Core Junior Nights Disco

Nine times a season a large group of dedicated volunteers, headed up by Michael Coyle, run a disco for 13 – 14 year olds on Friday nights. This team urgently needs additional volunteers to allow them to organise the discos which allows the club to participate more fully in our local community and which are a great source of funds for the club.

The nights are organised extremely efficiently with roles including:

• Ticket sales – leading up to each disco over 400 tickets are sold. The nights are advertised on Facebook and Instagram and sell out over a period of only an hour or two.

• Door management – over 400 tickets are collection and wrist bands applied all in the space of about 15 minutes.

• Car park management - with the number of parents dropping and collecting their children it is essential that the car park is managed in such a way to ensure the safety of the children and to minimise traffic.

• Security – a minimum of six adults remain in the hall at all times with additional adults monitoring the “chill out zone”. In addition, other volunteers are required to check toilet areas etc. to ensure that all children can enjoy the event in a safe and enjoyable environment.

• Cloak room – a minimum of two volunteers are required to run the cloakroom.

• Tuck shop - a minimum of two volunteers are required to run the tuck shop.

Typically, the time required from a volunteers is from 19.00 – 23.30 on a Friday evening. We are seeking volunteers to assist with a number of nights during the season but there is absolutely no requirement to commit to the full schedule.

These discos are strictly “no alcohol” events and the kids are really well behaved.

The dates up to Christmas 2016 are:

• Friday 28 October (Halloween special)

• Friday 18 November

• Friday 16 December

AIL match day – Gate management

The club is seeking additional volunteers to assist with management of the front gate for home AIL match days.

Typically, this involves:

• Organising the car parking to ensure that the car park is filled efficiently and that the car park is closed off once it reaches capacity.

• Checking tickets and referring patrons to the ticket office

We are looking for volunteers to assist with a number of match days during the season but there is absolutely no requirement to commit to the full schedule.

Women’s Rugby – 1st Team Manager

St Mary's College RFC are seeking applications for the role of Women's Senior Team Manager for the 2016 / 2017 season. Our Women's senior team plays in Division 1 of the AIL, the highest level of women's rugby in Ireland.

Reporting to:

The manager reports to the Director of Women's Rugby

Main Responsibilities:

Responsibility for all elements of off-field planning and organisation of matches.

Close liaison with the coaching team regarding organisational requirements.

Providing leadership, communication and consultation with players, coaches, and other team management.

Club Shop

The club is expanding the shop opening hours to be more available to members. The shop stocks merchandise such as jerseys, shorts, socks, gum shields as well as scarves, hats etc.

The shop will be open on training nights and weekend. We are seeking volunteers to share a rota to manage the shop at these times.
